Noun Clauses มี 3 ชนิด ได้แก่ content clauses, interrogative clauses และ relative clauses

Content Clauses
Content clauses อาจจะมีหรือไม่มี conjunction "that" นำหน้าก็ได้
เมื่อ content clauses ถูกใช้เป็น subject โดยทั่วไปจะมี it… นำหน้า

• It is quite probable (that) he is already gone.
• It annoys me very much (that) people always spell my name wrong.

บางครั้ง clause จะใช้ขึ้นต้นประโยค ในกรณีนี้ต้องใช้ that นำหน้า clause นั้นๆ

• That he is already gone is quite probable.

Content clause อาจใช้เสมือน complement ส่วนขยายของประโยคก็ได้

• My belief is that he never received my letter.
• The worst of it is that you don’t know what you really like to do.

Content clause บางครั้งก็ใช้เป็น object ของ verb มักนิยมใช้โดยปราศจาก conjunction

• I believe (that) he is already gone.
• I told him (that) I was coming.
• I said (that) I was too busy.

บางครั้ง object clause จะมี it นำหน้า

• I take it that he gives his consent.

Content clause บางทีก็เป็น object ของ preposition

• I know nothing except that he was a new-comer.
• Men differ from brutes in that they can think and speak.

โดยมากเวลาใช้ content clause เราจะละ preposition ของ verb หรือของ adjective

• I insisted (that) he should come up with us. (Insisted on  it)
• Are you sure (that) nothing is wrong with the machine? (Sure of  it)
• You must be very careful (that) nobody knows you are here. (Careful about  it)

Content clause มักใช้เป็น apposition คือใช้ตามหลัง nouns อย่าง fact, belief, suggestion,…

• Nobody shares my belief that he was mad.
• My suggestion that he was mad was not accepted.

ในกรณีที่ object clause ไม่สามารถใช้เชื่อมต่อท้ายคำกริยาหรือ it ที่ใช้แทนกริยานั้นๆ ได้ เรามักเติม the fact เข้าไปหน้า object clause

• This cannot hide the fact that he is growing old.
• We must face the fact that we are living in a revolutionary world.
• Everything points to the fact that he knew it beforehand.
