การใช้ประโยคในการสื่อสาร
เราใช้ประโยคเพื่อสื่อสาร ให้ข้อมูล หรือเพื่อแสดงความคิดเห็น แสดงความปรารถนา ให้ผู้อื่นได้รับรู้ และบางทีก็ใช้ประโยคในการตั้งคำถาม ใช้ขอร้อง หรือใช้เพื่อแสดงอารมณ์ ความรู้สึก เช่น ตกใจ ประหลาดใจ โดยสามารถแบ่งประโยคตามลักษณะของการใช้ได้เป็นประเภทย่อยๆ คือ ประโยคที่มีใจความตอบรับ (affirmation), ประโยคที่มีใจความปฏิเสธ (negation), ประโยคคำถาม (interrogation), ประโยคอุทาน (exclamations) และประโยคคำสั่ง ขอร้อง คำแนะนำ (commands, requests, suggestions)
Affirmation
ถึงแม้ว่าประโยค active และ passive นั้นจะมีใจความหลักเหมือนๆ กัน และประโยคที่อยู่ในรูป active ทุกประโยค จะสามารถทำให้อยู่ในรูป passive ได้ ก็ใช่ว่าเราอยากจะใช้รูปไหนก็ใช้ โดยมากแล้วเราจะใช้ประโยครูป active ส่วนประโยคในรูป passive นั้น เราจะใช้ ในกรณีต่อไปนี้
- ประโยคบอกเล่าที่มีใจความตอบรับ (affirmative) ซึ่งประกอบด้วย auxiliaries, verb “be” หรือ verb “have”
- He was angry.
- Well, I say, you are a swimmer.
- But I have told you everything already.
- It must go, there is no help for it. |

- I do wish you wouldn’t drive so fast.
- A cup of tea?—Yes, I do want it.
- When he does come, he is generally late.
- But she did send the money when she said she would. |
